WhatGeek x LEOBOG Alice A75 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

The Leobog Alice A75 is a budget friendly, Tri-Mode Alice-style keyboard.  You can connect the keyboard to bluetooth (up to 3 devices) for convenience, 2.4ghz dongle for wireless performance, or wired for best performance.  The keyboard has multiple styles to choose from or can be customizable to your preference.  The keyboard itself is 5-pin hot-swappable with north facing LEDs allowing you to change out the switches to your preference.  As this is a north facing socket, cherry keycaps may have interference issues with some keycap/switch combination.  Included keycaps can either be clean and professional or absolutely adorable for the crazy cat people.  Rather than cheap ‘flip feet’ style plastic tabs to raise the height of the keyboard, the Leobog Alice A75 has magnetic rubber feet that can be flipped over to raise or lower the height of the keyboard.

The Leobog software further allows you to remap the keys on your keyboard to your preferred layout.  The included dyesub keycaps with the Cat themed keycaps are rather thick and provide a deeper more muted typing experience.  Measuring roughly 1.6mm thick, the included keycaps are thicker than most keycaps.

The Leobog Alice A75 has two unique standout features not available in most Alice style keyboards.  In the middle of the split is a mini-joystick that functions as a compact, alternative to the arrow cluster in a more central placement on the board.

Plate mounted stabilizers come pre-lubed and while they did not need to be tuned, they were easily removable should you choose to tune, balance or lube the stabilizers to you preference.

Secondly, while there are many budget Alice keyboards, most are not necessarily ‘ergonomic’.  The Leobog Alice A75 is a “tented” Alice Keyboards and one of the few in the market.  Alice keyboards are split to allow more neutral positioning of the arms.  A tented keyboard however takes it a step further with keeping the wrists more comfortable at a neutral position.

For the more discerning, more advanced keyboard enthusiast, be aware this keyboard is NOT easy to mod.  I do not recommend users attempt opening the unit as you would likely damage your keyboard.  There are 7 visible holes to remove the screws with two additional screws hidden.  The bottom center bumpon would have to be removed to access the screw.  Worst though is the hidden screw behind the metal plate (see circled in red).  The plate is a soft, bendable metal that is difficult to remove and can’t be fixed once bent.

Within the unit are two PCBs, a daughter board and several short ribbons connecting them all together.  It’s very easy for the ribbon cables to be accidentally pulled out of the connections on the PCB.

Leobog uses their own brand of hit swap sockets.

Beyond the foam is a very dense, thick silicone pad. The sound absorption prevents the keyboard from sounding “hollow” and/or “cheap.

Overall, the keyboard is an outstanding value keyboard.  The Leobog Alice A75 is one of the few budget options that can give you a tented, comfortable typing experience.  The keyboard acoustics are fairly deep and muted.  They sound fantastic despite the stigma of plastic cases.  Perfect for those who want a keyboard ready to use right out of the box.  For more advanced enthusiasts, there’s no point in opening the unit as I had done.  Very little can be modded on the inside.
